Confessions of a Cabinet Designer: Drawer-ing You In

Being a cabinet designer is a door to endless possibilities… and some unexpected adventures. Sure, I spend my days sketching kitchens and making countertops match backsplashes like a Tinder success story. But let me tell you, it’s not all wood grain and glory.

For starters, every client thinks their kitchen is the most unique space in the world. “Oh, you’ll love designing around my quirky angles and the random pole in the middle of the room!” Sure, Karen. Angles and poles are my bread and butter.

Then there’s the drawer debate. Soft-close? Full extension? “Do I really need that many drawers?” Yes, Todd, you need them. You don’t think you do, but when you’re trying to cram 24 Tupperware lids into one cabinet, you’ll thank me.

And don’t get me started on pantries. Designing pantries makes me feel like Oprah. “YOU get a shelf! YOU get a pull-out basket! EVERYBODY gets spice racks!” It’s a thrill seeing people get emotional over organized cereal boxes.

But the real fun? Watching someone try to pronounce quartzite for the first time. (“Quartz-light? Quartz-uh-tea?” No, it’s just quartzite, and yes, it’s expensive.)

At the end of the day, nothing beats transforming someone’s chaos into functional beauty. And if my designs inspire you to actually close the cabinet doors, well, I’ve done my job.

Being a cabinet designer? It’s a hinge above the rest.
